Dr. Jorge Barrios Rivera, President of the Mexican Association of Exploration Geophysicists (AMGE, by its acronym in Spanish), expressed the importance of implementing governmental measures to prevent the effects of climate change.
In the framework of the 61st anniversary of AMGE, Dr. Jorge Barrios Rivera urged all those attending the assembly «Delegación Villahermosa» to be responsible and mindful to help address global warming. The president of the Association indicated that the federal government has made a great effort to promote activities to help face climate change. However, he stressed that there is never enough joint efforts to contain this problem. «We must all take care of our planet for our benefit and the benefit of future generations,» he said.
Regarding AMGE’s 61st anniversary, Jorge Barrios emphasized that the Association has been strengthened for more than six decades. The foregoing because of the hard work of its members, participants and associates, who have forged a great legacy. «Since 1958 we have promoted the study and development of geophysics in general and, more specifically in the branches of this science that are dedicated to exploration and research,» Barrios Rivera shared.

Currently, AMGE has 650 members and 550 students distributed in 11 student chapters and eight delegations, including one in Houston, Texas. Barrios Rivera mentioned that in all these years they have managed to spread scientific, technological and educational interest, to maintain a high level of knowledge among all its members. «AMGE does its work thinking about the future of geophysicists and the preservation of that legacy,» he said.
He also noted that geophysics is everywhere because it is the study of the physical forces of the earth. Therefore, everything that concerns the mechanism of forces: gravity, solar energy, aquifers and soil mechanics, including global warming, are all within geophysics.
